Case : 710Upon the death of Mlle. Lenormand in 1843, as was the tradition, publishers began publishing Lenormand decks and books that had nothing to do with the original person. The first Petit Lenormand, signed by Philippe, heir to Mlle. Lenormand, was started from 1846 in Coblenz, Germany. These cards ware soon produced by many manufacturers in Germany, Belgium, Sweden, but never in France. In the USA, they were called, Gypsy Fortune Telling Cards, and sometimes under other names, like Madam Morrow’s Fortune-Telling Cards. In the Petit Lenormand, each symbol was accompanied by a playing card miniature (either Ansbach or Bavarian/Paris pattern) with the numering from 1-36. It featured the same set of images found in the Das Spiel der Hoffnung (Game of Hope), a game of chance designed by Johann Kaspar Hechtel, which was published in 1798 by G.P.J. Bieling in Nurremberg. Many researcher show that the sheet of instructions and card meanings were nearly identical to the Viennese Coffee-Card in 1794.
