An earlier name of the game Trionfi is first recorded in the diary of Giusto Giusti in 1440. The first basic rules for the game of Tarocco appear in the manuscript of Martiano da Tortona, in 1637. The game of tarot has many regional variations: tarock, tarok,  tarokk, tarot, tarocco, tarocchini. Tarocchini, a Italian version, has survived in Bologna and there are still others played in Piedmont and Sicily. The 18th century saw tarot's greatest revival, during which it became the most popular card game in Europe. Jeu de Tarot, a French version, experienced a revival beginning very late in the 1970s but France has the strongest tarot gaming community. Jeu de Tarot is now the most popular card game in France after Belote Many guide of this game, called Academie des Jeux de Cartes (Academy of Playing-Cards Game) published many time during 18th to 20th century. Some publications are from the tarot associations as Academie de Tarots (Academy of Tarot, c.1900), or latterly FΓ©dΓ©ration FranΓ§aise de Tarot (French Federation of Tarot, c.1970).
