Case : 209No original deck survived, but many manufacturers published many decks, both claims the “original Etteilla deck”. Etteilla type I, original named Grand Etteilla ou Tarot Egyptiens (Grand Etteilla or Tarot Egyptians) published by Grimaud, include the original deck from 1788 and a reprint by one of Etteilla’s students in 1804. This pattern is the most popular in the market from 20th century, and is still produced today. The Etteilla II deck, named Livre de Thot (Book of Thot) was published in 1840 by Z.Lismon and contained some variations from Etteilla’s original titling and imagery, but never republished again. Etteilla Type III originally published as the Grand Jeu de Oracle des Dames (Great Game of the Oracle of Ladies) which is designed in 1865 by G. Regamey, published by Dusserre, reprint again in 1985. One early departure from the Etteilla decks was the Jeu de la Princesse Tarot (Tarot Game of Princess) or so called Etteilla type IV, published by Watilliaux. in 1843. But it doesn't have a Hoffman numbering classification as type I, II and III.
