Gérard Encausse (1865–1916), whose esoteric pseudonym was Dr.Papus, who received a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1894 at  the University of Paris, co-founder of Kabbalistic Order of the Rose-Croix, Grand Hierophant (international head) of the Masonic Ancient and Primitive Rites of Memphis and Mizraim, Bishop of l'Église Gnostique de France, a master grade X° of the Ordo Templi Orientis, a high grade master of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Light and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. His book Tarot des Bohemiens (Tarot of Bohemians), published in 1889, become the most complete analysis of tarot at his time, based on the kabbalah, with the illustration of O.Wirth. In 1909, Papus published Le Tarot Divinatoire (Tarot Divinatory) which included Goulinat's Major Arcana designs plus 56 Minor Arcana designs by Etteilla, constitute the Papus Tarot. Tarot of the Bohemians, along with the Key to the Tarot (appear 20 years later), constitute the core literature of 19th and early 20th century Tarotism.
