Short Guide of Museum


This museum is the one of six tarot museum in the World but the only one in Asia. The main collection stays on three floors of the museum.

The collection starts with the 1st floor  which presents to you the History Of The Playing Cards. The first playing-card are invented in China in the 11th century, after that, they become popular in many Asian countries like Vietnam, Korea, Thailand ... and by the silk road, they go to India, Persia, Egypt before coming to Europe in a late 13th century. Two oldest patterns of playing-card in Europe are the Italian Pattern and Spanish Pattern. After that, the Germanic Pattern appeared in the 16th century and it develops to become French Pattern in the 17th century, and, after many changes, lately the modern playing-cards in the 20th century. You will discover many beautiful examples of these cards (and also the boxes, the outils and the documents related with the playing-cards) from 18th to 20th century from the case number 1 until 135.

The collection continues with the History Of The Tarot Game from the beginning with Visconti-Sforza Tarot in the 15th century, until the modern tarot today. It start from the Royal Tarot from Milan and Florence in the Renaissance period, and two brothers of tarot: the Minchiate and Mantegna Tarot from the 16th century. The tarot game continues with the reversible Italian Tarot in the 17th century, and the Tarot of Marseille. The section ends with the Nouveau Tarot in the 18th century, and it development during 20th century. You will discover many tarot belong with many postcards presented the image of tarot game from the 18th to the 20th century from the case number 135 until 169.

The collection persist with the History Of The Tarot Divination from its father Etteilla in 18th century. The collection holds one of the finest artifacts relative with Etteilla's work. You will see the complete collection of Etteilla tarot with their all versions in the history. It present to you also the Ancient Tarot of Marseille, one of the most influence patterns in tarot divination and their famous predecessors and postcessors. You will see also many taromancy books and documents of France, Italy, England, USA from the 18th  until the 20th century. These examples present three centuries of tarot development in the popular culture with many originals and reproductions from the case number 170 until 227.

The collection pass to the History Of The Tarot Occultist during the last 19th century to the end of the 20th century. These stories of tarot occultist begin with the most influenced magician Eliphas Levi in the 19th century and end with the Eden Gray's Theory of the Fool's Journey. You will discover in this section many famous rare original tarot like the Waite's, Crowley's, Papus's, Wirth's, Muchery's tarot ... belonging to their original books from many different secret societies and orders in the world. You will discover also the rare tarot set of different influence from the Egyptian magic tradition to the hermetist magic tradition, until the dark magic tradition from the case number 228 until 329.

The collection keeps four big shelves to present the rare and limited edition of the Tarot And Occultist Books  from the 18th until 21th century. The 1st one displays to you the collection of the Academy of Playing-Cards Game books (Academie des Jeux de Cartes); the 2nd one displays to you the collection of the Dictionnaries and Encyclopedies of Tarot, the 3rd one displays to you the collection of the Art of Cartomancy (Art de Tirer les Cartes), the 4th one displays to you the collection of the Dictionnaries and Encyclopedies of Occult Science (Encyclopedia et Dictionnaire des Science Occulte). These collections present to you all history of the researches of tarot from 17th century until 20th century, from the case number 332 until 384.

The collection passes in the History Of The Oracle from the beginning in the 16th century until the 20th century. The collection contains many historical oracle decks and documents with a large variety of influences from the well-known Runes until the Iching. The collection carries also a very complete collection of divination decks during 5 centuries of development of oracle from the case 206 until 224

The collection holds one of the finest objects relative with Mlle Lenormand's work: all versions of Grand Lenormand cards and Petit Lenormand cards, from France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia, England, USA from the late 19th century until the 2nd world war. Many documents of Mlle Lenormand from the diary until the original carte of visit. You will love it from the case number 576 until 610.

The museum keep also a collection of the Tarot Printing Process Artifact like the woodcuts, metal printing plates, screen printing plate, uncut tarot sheets, photographic glasses... from asian artisanal making until european industrial process. You can enjoy them from the case number 350 until 375.

The collection gives you also the artifact from the local Vietnamese Tarot & Oracle World. Many first editions of occultist tarot and oracle decks and many first time books will show to you the history of cartomancy in Vietnam from 17th century until now. The museum present also many Vietnamese original artworks with signature from the case number 176 until 185.

The collection displays also the Tiny Cartomancy World with many tiny decks and mini cartomancial artifacts in the world. You will find out also, belonging to the historical collections, during the visit, many paintings and artworks of cartomancy and, of course, many decorative objects relative with cartomancy (tarot club pins, tarot competition medal, …).
