Ancien Tarot de Marseille: The most famous deck for divination in Europe

Case : 178.
In the early 20th century, the Tarot Nouveau published by Grimaud with its strengths in themes and French brands, are largely supplanting the model of Italian tarot. The classic tarot with its Italian stores and its traditional strengths disappears almost completely in production. However, in 1930, Paul Marteau, who is a grandnephew of Baptiste-Paul Grimaud and the heiritage of Grimaud manufacturer, revives the old tarot targeting the market of divination, and outputs a modified version renowned Ancien Tarot de Marseille (Old Tarot of Marseille), which was a great success throughout the 20th century, based on Tarot de Nicolas Conver and Tarot de Besançon redeemed with Lequart design. Paul Marteau, who had a doctor's degree in philosophy, was intrigued by the ancient Marseille pattern and by tarot symbolism. The result of this work is the Grimaud edition of the Marseilles pattern, which is what most tarotists nowadays believe the standard of Tarot de Marseille pattern for occult purpose during 20th century.
