A five-century aged playing-game still used today: Tarock and Cego

Germanic game of tarot include Cego, Zwanzigerrufen and KΓΆnigrufen. They use the 54 card short-version of Tarot called Cego or a full-version of Tarock Industrie und GlΓΌck, a variation of Tarot Nouveau. They are widely played in Germany and all the countries of ancient Austro-Hungarian Monarchy:  the Austrian variation still widely popular in Slovenia and Croatia, The northern Danish Grosstarok, also uses the Tarot Nouveau today. Tiertarock (animal tarot), an ancestor of  Cego, the first known types of French-suited tarot, use the theme of animals, real or fantastic, replaces the traditional trump scenes of the Tarot of Marseilles. Later versions are the Autrian Tiertarock and Adler Cego cards. Tiertarock were most commonly found in northern Europe, until the decline of tarot games in 19th century. In Austria-Hungary, they were replaced by the Industrie und GlΓΌck decks. The Adler Cego used in Baden is the only animal tarot still in common use.
