Mlle Lenormand

Case : 727
Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand (1772–1843) was a French professional fortune-teller of considerable fame during the Napoleonic era. In France, Lenormand is considered the greatest cartomancer of all time, highly influential on the wave of French cartomancy that began in the late 18th century. She claims that she met a fortune teller named Madame Gilbert who taught him the rudiments of divination using tarot reading of Etteilla and three years later, she holds a clairvoyance office in Paris. It thus meets three of the most influential men of the Revolution, Marat, Robespierre and Saint-Just, whom she would have predicted a violent death. This famous case make her become well-known in France. We can count many famous faces (which are believed be predicted by her): Napoleon and Josephine, M-G-A Vadier, King Louis XVI of France, tsar Alexandre of Russia, …). She die at the age of 82, left behind a fortune of 500,000 Francs, and left no heirs other than a nephew who, a devout Catholic, burned all of Mme. Lenormand's occult paraphernalia; taking only the monetary fortune that she left behind. Very few photo and graphic of Mlle Lenormand survived.
